Experts say that one of the other contributing factors that push young people to immigrate to Europe from West Africa is the depletion of local fish stocks. Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania and Senegal have all signed agreements with the European Union, Russia and other countries, allowing them the right to fish in their waters. Experts say that this type of mismanagement has destroyed fish stocks and resulted in the loss of a vital local economy.
