As friends and family gather and present gifts, Qipisoq Ulloriaq holds his nephew - dressed in traditional sealskin kamiks (boots), polar bear skin pants, and white canvas anorak - in his lap during a first birthday celebration for the boy. A changing climate - which shows itself in warming temperatures, earlier summers, later winters, and shrinking and thinning sea ice - threatens the livelihoods and traditions of some of the last subsistence hunters on Earth, the Polar Inuit communities of far Northwest Greenland.
