Yolette is 22 years old. She was shot six times in the stomach during a violent clash between the MINUSTAH and local gangs in Cité Soleil in December 2006. At the time she was 6 months pregnant with her first child, and one of the bullets killed her unborn baby. She can no longer have children. When she arrived at the hospital, the triage team assumed that it was too late to save her. Yolette had several surgeries during her two-month stay at the hospital, fighting infections, fever and pain. She had no family or friends to look after her, as everyone assumed she would die. With medical care she held on to life and survived. When this photo was taken in May 2007, she was back at the hospital to have her last stitches removed, seven months after the incident. Port-au-Prince, Haiti. 1/JUNE/2007
