Men wash a pair of buffaloes after a Kambala race in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, India. Droplets of water roll off the oiled backs of the buffaloes, which were massaged before racing. The ancient sport is very popular with significant crowds and cash prizes for the racers and the owners of the animals. The sport has attracted controversy in recent years due to the heavy whipping of animals by some racers.
