Arlene Spralls carries her younger brother, Marquas, to her mother inside their Clarksdale home. “I can change his diaper, too,” said Arlene with all the pride of being able to care for her younger siblings. Arlene’s mother, Marquita, is 19 and raising her three children with the help of her mother, who works as a security guard at a casino in Tunica County. “The only time it’s quiet around here is when I’m asleep,” said Marquita, who hopes to find a job one day and move out of the house she shares with her brother and parents.
