Lingard, 40, saw her promising 15-year career as a prison officer destroyed when she reported claims of prisoners being bullied and intimidated at Wakefield prison in West Yorkshire. In 2005, an employment tribunal heard that colleagues treated her as 'a grass' and her managers failed to take her complaints seriously. The tribunal found in her favour and listed a catalogue of failings by the prison service. Lingard was awarded £477,000 to compensate her for the total loss of her career. No officers involved were ever disciplined in any way. (image by Mishka Henner)
