I woke to the sound of monkeys on a nearby rooftop. It was supposed to be foggy and cool here in McLeod Ganj, India, but it was sunny and warm, and Christmas was a few weeks away. Lara said in an email it was snowing in Toronto. I think in Vancouver too. I got dressed and went for a walk through town. It was unbelievably calm. Not like Delhi or Kathmandu at all. There were still cows all over, but less honking, smog, hawkers. I wasn't too surprised. I knew McLeod Ganj was on the hippy trail and was a major destination for buddhists all over, especially the West. The town clearly catered to that crowd. I sat down at a cafe overlooking the valley below, and ordered an iced coffee. It was fantastic. I ordered another. (image by Ryan Gauvin)
