An air tanker drops a load of retardent on a smouldering area of the San Bernardino National Forest near Highway 330, south of Running Springs, Calif. The fire which is known as the 'Bridge Fire' had more than 941 fire personnel assigned and threatened nearly 1,500 residences and 3,000 other structures. The fire was one of the first of several which burned out of control in Southern California during the summer fire season. Various fires burned hundreads of thousands of acres and killed several people including one fire fighter.
