A childhood hobby developed to a higher level in Germany (west). Worked in a paints factory to support my living and also to pay for my German language classes. Saved to buy my first SLR and a small darkroom kit to prepare for a photography career. The efforts paid off and got a job of assisting an advertising and industrial photographer. I used my annual paid holidays joining summer courses for various photography and darkroom techniques sponsered by my company. Worked with formats from 35 mm to 8 × 10 inch large formats in studio and outdoor shoots along with complete darkroom work both colour and B&W developing and printing from small size to very large size exhibition prints. There were quite a few more special printing processes involving ultra violet sensitive emulsions.
Single color Hydelberg Offset machine introduced the printing process from composing, lith film and plate making to final printing on the machine in black and white.
With the help of my street photography portfolio I was enlisted with the local newspaper as a freelancer on call. I was invited to cover for the newspaper activities and happenings in the city after my working hours. Prestigious assignments were covering the visits of the ex-Chancellor Mr. Willy Brandt and Mr. Helmut Kohl to the city.
I did some wedding photography as well to enhance my photographic skills.
After good 7 1/2 years of stay and work, I returned to India at the end of the year 1977. This was very much an unscheduled return due to family business. Engrossed with various activities of family business, I still indulged in what I loved most on a commercial basis. It was more of a hobby than anything else.
I picked up photography assignments for advertising, fashion, industrial, product shoots as they came to me. It has been a passion and passion makes a person ignore the deficits in a balance sheet.
I am still active in the field of photography. On travels I do keep shooting pictures. Earlier I shot mainly color slides and now I use digital. I am in the process of digitalising my slides and negatives, some of the scanned work of yester years is put up here. More of my work can be viewed in my website http://www.indergopal.com
I am available for assignments and would not mind travelling with like minded photographers for location, people shoots. Contact info is mentioned in my website.
