About

Born in Peru, in the southern department of Moquegua (which is a Quechua word meaning “a silent place”), David spent most of his growing up in Vermont: Tunbridge his hometown, and Middlebury his college town. A journey that began as a sports photography internship at a small, local weekly newspaper has recently taken him back to Peru for a photographic essay on religion and ritual in the Andes.

While learning about his roots, David learned Spanish and a few words of the native Quechua of the Puno and Cuzco regions, all the while working on his master’s thesis project for the University of Missouri. </>

David is currently a photographer and multimedia producer at the Mercury News in San Jose.

SF Bay Area: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Call for local, independent documentary photography featuring people, places and events
in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Public Press and Newsdesk.org seek documentary photography submissions for a slideshow exhibition to run during a fundraiser supporting their efforts to expand professional, noncommercial journalism in the San Francisco Bay Area.

This exhibition will offer local independent documentary photographers a chance to show their work to a group of influential journalists and local media supporters.

We’re looking for high-quality images, particularly pictures that tell stories with a local focus. Submissions may include serendipitous or artistic “street photography,” as long as it reflects the exhibition’s emphasis on the Bay Area.

Selected photographs will be projected on a screen during the event. With your permission, the images will also be featured online through www.newsdesk.org and www.public-press.org.

The fundraiser will take place on Dec. 4, 2008, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Starr King Room at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1187 Franklin Street (between O’Farrell and Geary), San Francisco.
