Instanbul: Wifi + quiet workspot ?

there are 2 places i can recommend:

1st, in Cihangir, Cafe Dan is right across the street from Leyla’s, (which everybody knows if you get lost) just walk down from Taksim square on Siraselviler untill you reach the mosque and take a left. it’s really nice and often has journalists and pretty ladies sitting around for hours on their laptops, one of the owners is an american lady, very friendly. (don’t go to Leyla’s, although it might look more apealing, it’s more expensive, posy, and the service really sucks.)

2nd, close to Taksim square, there’s Urban cafe. side street, quiet, very friendly, great magazines. walk down to Galatasary licesi (highschool) when you face it there’s a little alley on your left, walk up and around after the women’s hamam, untill you sse it on your left.

if you want more classy, the loby at the Marmara hotel on Taksim has free wifi too. but the coffee will set you back 10$.

The string of narghile cafes in Tophane are comfortable. I like Osmanli Narghile at the end, and they have free wifi. Grab a beanbag chair and some tea and type away. Tophane is on the other side of Galata past Taksim. Easy to get to. Here’s a map

Agreed with Guilad. The Tophane cafes David mentions are nice too but you might find some kids and/or sellers gathering around you. if you go there, i’d choose the “Cinaralti” cafe and evade others if you can.

All starbucks and similar cafes. Most require you to purchase hourly/daily credits via turk telekom. No probs there, easy online process with english language available.

You can also go to any hotel but i recommend the ones on the coast near ortakoy. There are a number of really good hotels with nice comfy lobbies, although some require you to be a guest to log in to wifi but you can ask, usually ok. There is also a ‘house cafe’ next to ortakoy pier, decent place that too.

Excellent suggestion, Guilad. I’ve been working here for a few hours now. Easy jazz, free wifi, friendly staff.

cool, glad you like it. it used to be my favorite place, i lived right on the corner. if you get hungry for some local food, just walk down the steet a few meters, there’s a familly restaurant on your left a few stores down and a good doner and pizza in the corner.
