Istanbul and cairo

Hi,
I’m heading to Istanbul and Cairo for research and wonder if anyone knows anywhere to stay cheap, or to sublet, I’ll be about a month in both places….
any ideas or connections would be terrific.

For hotel I recommend Buyuk Londra (http://www.londrahotel.net/). Fun place in the middle of everything. Prices can be negotiated and you can choose between renovated and not so very renovated rooms and that will also reflect the price…. lots of media people staying here.

Another tip is Hanedan Hotel (http://www.hanedanhotel.com/rates.htm). Pricelist price for high season is 35 euro and that is also possible to talk down a bit. Situated in the tourist part of the city if that is more convenient

Thanks for these tips, Frederik and David. I’ll look into them. I expect to be in Turkey from about the middle of May to the end of June, possibly longer, any tips re: visas, aswell? hope all’s well,

Get your 3 month tourist visa when you arrive at the airport (I think it’s still $20 for Americans)
