About

As a documentary portrait photographer I focus on movement and candid portraiture, capturing the spirit of a person or practice through the concentration, intensity, and passion of their engagement in their work. Recent work has been with martial artists, filmmakers, and dancers, doing film set photography “behind the scenes” as well as sports and performance photography.

I have also done documentary street photography in Syria, Turkey, Egypt, and the Sudan.

My personal art consists of messages conveyed through theatrical performance, either in public or in solitude, and which I document myself as self portraits, using a tripod and a timer. My focus is on the message, conveyed through symbol, gesture, and prop; the photograph is the distributable record of the message. I often work with early alphabets portrayed as “body glyphs” (shapes mimicked through posture) and am especially interested in metaphysical codes, or alphabets that ascribe spiritual meanings to each letter in addition to a sound value .

My website is linked above.

Please contact me for any type of work in the candid, sports, film set, or documentary photography vein, or to view my portfolio of personal performance art.

Advice on Seconding at Weddings

Hello all, I’ve been offered my first wedding gig and need some quick advice. I do candids, so they will have to have someone else to do the formal portraits. I assume this is a standard “seconding” situation.

For a full day, “getting dressed at home” through the reception, what should a second photog charge? I assume some combo of time + product? — I shoot digital. Any advice on charging for time, files, and/or print product greatly appreciated. many thanks, Ixa
