James Helmer is a freelance photographer who’s assignments have taken him to Southeast Asia, Mexico and the USA.
James started his photography career in Southeast Asia in 2005 where he was a regular contributor to Malaysia’s largest English written editorial daily, The Borneo Post. He trekked over 2,000 km across the island of Borneo between 2005 & 2008 documenting the plight of the orangutan ape. James worked with local NGO’s on Borneo and The Sabah Wildlife Department at The Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre in Malaysia capturing images of the indigenous animals and the struggles they face.
His clients include both corporate and international NGO’s in Toronto, Cambodia, Jakarta and Mexico. His photographs and stories have appeared in: The CBC news, Toronto Life, NOW, The Borneo Post, Photo Solutions and Photolife magazine.
James currently lives in Toronto and is focusing on documentary photography and film.
