Jasmine Murrell was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1975 and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. In 1998 she received her BFA in Fine Art at Parsons School of Design and later attended Wayne State University. She has participated in Third World Newsreels Film residency and studied photography and film at Cuny College and Fashion Institute of Technology.

Jasmines technique employs in several different mediums such as photography, painting, sculpture, film, and mixed media. Jasmine has exhibited nationally and internationally over the last ten years including venues such African American Museum and universities throughout the United States. She has had several commissions such as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; the Mayors Scholarship Ball and The Arts League of Michigan.

Currently returning from a year long project in South America where she has documented how people define home. During this project she lived with approximately 100 different families in Bolivia, Peru, Brazil and the northen amazon region.
