8/31 "the Human Race"

I am currently working on a book with Melcher media
on " The Human Race" – an event sponsored by Nike on 8/31.
26 cities in the world plus a dozen or so individuals ( or groups ) racing at the same time around the world. There will be quite a lot of assignments. I am set in the major cities but am looking for photographers who shoot digitally ( required for the quick turnaround) in the following places.

Nepal – a UNHCR group has a group of primarily refugees running the highest marathon in history (I think).

  • I have a few candidates for almost all the following cities but am looking for someone with more creativity. Have a couple of leads but not happy with the level of talent.

Buenos Aires- Caracas Istanbul Lima- Melbourne- Mexico City- Taipei Seoul Singapore-Vancouver -Warsaw

Rights- One time usage in book and for publicity (NOT advertising) associated with the book – Embargo-copyright reverts to photographer after book published-Nov 1. I will be happy to release photos on a case by case basis before the Nov 1st date but on a non competitive basis. The assignment: You will cover prelimin of race- the race (10K) after race and concert afterward.( 6-8 hours total appx) You will be credentialed and have access both at the race site and concert. Happy to workl with each hotographer on their vision and needs for the venues. Good opportunity -probably good resale from the concert. I figure a 6-8 hour day.
Once again digital required and ftp to site in NYC by following day 9/1.
day rates are 400 per day ( a little flex here -the better your
experience and ability the more flex) plus expenses.
Please send me links to your work and any questions to jaycolton@yahoo.com or jay@jaycolton.com. If you don’t know me google me or ask around here
after almost 20 years at TIME most of the journalists with experience know me or of me. I am looking for creative talent as well as professionalism. This is a sports event- an homage to to running. Hopefully a million people around the world will be raising money and awareness for the charities on that day. Nothing like this has ever been done before. If you know me, you know I encourage creativity from the photographers who work with me. I didn’t win awards annually for my obstinancy or lack of vision. Assignments are rare as hens teeth these days. This could be great as a showcase and good resale from the concert.
In addition it’s a good cause ( otherwise I wouldn’t do it). A good portion of the proceeds are going to UNHCR Lance Armstrong Cancer fund and World Wildlife Fund as well as ninemillion.org. The book will be green.
If you are in any of these cities (I am flying nobody- don’t have the budget) and are interested I will be happy to review your portfolio. Thanks everyone-keep shooting make a difference in the world with your mind, your eye, and most of all with your heart. Jay Colton
