John Pilger on Iraq and Terrorism

Check out John Pilger – an excerpt from a series of interviews I’ve been filming for the forthcoming Media Workers Against the War conference

‘The First Casualty? War, Truth & the Media Today’

at the London School of Economics on November 17th.

Next up we’ll have Tony Benn, Ken Loach, Martin Bell and others.

Its been a fascinating week talking to these people.

Hey Sion you’re back on your pins?

Good to know, wish John was doing something out here, lovely guy, lovely.

Sounds like a line up I envy you!

Hope you’re well, you guys in London should see this, sounds great.

GREAT INTERVIEW SION! :))))...

I will pass it forward! :)))...Im really anxious to see the others you’ve wrangled. That is a brilliant lineup…can’t wait! :)))...

Pilger is ABSOLUTELY RIGHT: “the greatest terrorism IS state terrorism”...and that the most numerous victims are Muslims…I only pray that N.America (and American’s wide) get a chance to see these interviews and then digest this…as i writer, i know many have written about this for a while, but the most need the image, the video to process and so my hope is that these and others will embark, wide…

spread it wide, please!

thanks mate for providing us this (and in the future, those) invaluable interviews!

cheers,
bob

Thanks, Sion, for sharing this interview with us on LS.

I’ve read John Pilger’s articles, but this was the first time seeing him talk. His mention of state terroism reminded me of this article on the firebombing of Tokyo during World War II. I’ve read an account of how it was like in Dresden when that city was hit by firebombing. Here is one of them

Ta very much. Pilger had a lot to say which hasn’t made the final cut, which is mostly restricted to various peoples opinions about the media coverage of Iraq and Afghanistan.

In the film we have:

Martin Bell (War Correspondent and former MP)
Tony Benn (Politician & activist)
Ken Loach (Film Director)
Yasmin Alibhai Brown (Columnist, ‘The Independent’)
Jonathan Steele (Senior Foreign Correspondent,’The Guardian’)
Abdul Rahman Malik (Contributing Editor, ‘Q-News’)
John Kampfner (Editor, ‘New Statesman’)

It’s about 8 minutes long.

We would have liked to have interviewed more women to be honest, but we couldn’t arrange things in the time we had.

The YouTube interviews are rough cuts of ‘surplus’ material.

Theres a lot of material though (Benn and Pilger could make films in themselves) so maybe we’ll try and put something longer together when we get the chance, and when my editing gets less crap.

As for me pins…the only reason I could do the shooting is because it involved mostly standing (or sitting) still. My leg is still trashed.

The conference should be good, if anyones interested, tickets are still on sale ;)
