John Edwin Mason

Teaches African history and the history of photography at the University of Virgina. Recent publications include “One Love, Ghoema Beat: Inside the Cape Town Carnival,” a photo essay published by Random House Struik and the University of Virginia Press. Other projects include work on gender and racial diversity in motor sports, “Democracy of Speed.” Writes about South African history and culture, especially jazz and popular politics.
