My name is Jonathan Moore and I am a graduate of the University of Southern
California. I started shooting the beginning of my junior year at USC, working for
the Daily Trojan as a staff photographer. When I originally joined, I intended on
pursuing photojournalism because I never thought I would be qualified to cover
USC sports, even though I have always dreamed of being on the field at the coliseum
during a USC football game. When I asked the photo editor if that woulod be a
possibility, she told me that I could start shooting football practice, but it would be
very unlikely that I would cover an actual game due to my lack of experience.
Later that week, I purchased my first zoom lens and dedicated three days per
week shooting football practice.
Later that semester, the photo editor asked me to shoot the USC vs. Cal football
game in Berkley, my first experience covering a real sporting event! It was such
a rush being on the field, but I enjoyed every second of it, especially watching the
seasoned photographers with their massive lenses and kneepads! When I saw the
potential of my work, I knew at that point that I wanted to be one of those
photographers!
So for the next two years I covered USC Football, Basketball, Water Polo, Soccer
and Swimming for the Daily Trojan. After graduating from USC this past May, I
was asked by the editor of uscfootball.com to continue shooting Football.
Just recently, I was hired by CBS/KCAL Sports to shoot USC Basketball this
season.
Sports photography is obviously a huge passion of mine and I take my career very
seriously. I am willing to do whatever it takes to suceed in this extremely competitive
industry, which is why I am always open to any comments or advice!
