I’ve written, produced, directed dozens of TV documentaries for cable broadcasters including National Geographic, The Discovery Channel, and The History Channel.
My film “Jetman” won the 2009 Special Icarus Award at Les Icares du Cinema International, and I’ve been nominated for both writing and directing Gemini awards in Canada.
I’ve worked in every state in the USA (except Alaska!), South America, West and Eastern Europe, Asia, Russia, Japan, Morroco, Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, India, Turkey, Iceland, Jordan, the Carribean and the Arctic.
I’m currently making a transition away from the TV doc business, seeking to expand my interest in still photography, both in portraiture and documentary.
I’m currently shooting a series about oil and natural gas rig hands in the Canadian Arctic and the USA. In November 2013 I’m returning to Mumbai to complete a project about trash recyclers, and then north to Varanasi to photograph the Ganges festival.
I would like to contribute to the work of an NGO dedicated to improving the lives of people in developing countries. I’d like to think my extensive production experience, my photographic and writing abilities, plus my skills for putting my subjects at ease, and making quick and fast friendships are valuable assets.
With the right connection, and a bit of luck, I hope to make the “second act” of my career socially contributive, and also make some good pictures along the way.
