My work is retrospective of experiences of growing up in an affluent country, as I try to understand rural poverty, which my ancestors experienced in India.
Kajal Nisha Patel is a self taught Photographer, born in Leicester. She has won and been shortlisted for a total of 17 grants, awards and prizes since May 2006. Her work has been published and exhibited internationally including The Whitechapel Gallery in London and The National Museum of Singapore. Her series, Fabric, will be exhibited in 2013, at the FORMAT Festival in Derby. She was recently selected as a finalist for the Asian Women Photographer’s showcase at Chiang Mai Documentary Arts Festival in 2013. In January 2012, Kajal was honoured as the recipient for Gammelgaard Monochrome Photography prize fund, for LIGHTSEEKERS; a cross-cultural, photography and emotional literacy project she began in 2007.
