After graduating from West Point in 1995, and spending seven years as an Aviation Officer in the Army, Kate Karwan Burgess decided to change careers and follow her passions in photography. She left the military in 2002 and earned a MA in Photography from Ohio University’s School of Visual Communications in 2004.
Burgess is known for ability to capture details and get unique and varied environmental portraits. Burgess is proficient in Portuguese and Spanish, and her interests include issues revolving around the military, women, music, and children with special needs. She is currently a freelance photographer based east of San Francisco out of Modesto, California. She continues to passionately shoot environmental portraits and documentaries of subjects and issues close to her heart.
