Know anyone in Transdniestria?

I’m thinking about going to Transdniestria and would like to speak to someone who lives there (or at least travels there often from Moldova). If by chance you can advise someone, I would be incredibly grateful. Fixers, drivers, local journos…
Many thanks in advance,
Olga

Hallo Olga,
I’m planning a trip there as well. I found this: http://www.tiraspol.marisha.net/ They say they can guide you around Tiraspol and other villages. To get to Tiraspol you don’t need an invitation letter anymore so supposedly should be easier to get in. Here there are other info: http://www.englishmoldova.com/index.php?s=d3c835677b42481bab2cbd1e607f26ee&showforum=23
If you can get any other information I would really appreciate if you can share them. All the best,
S.

Hi Simone,
thanks for the links,
I’ve actually found a Transdniestria journo today (unfortunately, only Russian-speaking), and he says the journalists now have to have accreditation.
I can keep you in touch about all the info I get from him – just give me an email.
Of course I’ve been to many places without proper papers, but lets see, what’s up there.

Hi Milos,
I accepted your invitation in Skype. Anyway, in August I will be in other country already.

Hey Olga—send me an email and I’ll pass on what I know (was there for a few days last year, will be working on a story there later this summer too). I am on the road this month but i will write back as soon as i can

matt, maybe you can share your information and insights with the public?

hey guys sorry for the delay—Milos, don’t wait to overwhelm my contact by putting his info out for all, he’s just one guy in a crazy place. Don’t want to play gatekeeper but I’d prefer to keep it private.
I don’t have much else to say except to be careful at the border (i went in as a ‘tourist’ which was ok until they searched my bag and found a UN press ID i forgot to take out .. which didn’t actually exclude me from entry but did in a roundabout way cause me to have to pay a ‘fine’ of $15 US to exit the ‘country’ because they rushed me through a ‘special line’ without getting proper documents upon entry)... and arrive for the minibusses early unless you like sitting on a 2inch tall stool in the aisle for the 1.5hr ride :P
happy to try to answer specific questions via email (easier to get from road than me checking here, unfortunately)
