large format plus sound recording

So I am starting a project and I want to use a 4X5 or an 8X10 camera. While I have a little knowledge on these cameras, I was hoping one or a few of you tech masters could point me in the direction of which cameras you have used, as well as other supplies that will be necessary.

In addition, I want to purchase a voice/sound recorder to make a mutimedia presentation for another long term project I have been working on. I know this topic has come up several times, but I am wondering what is the latest in the ongoing media technology updates.

Thanks in advance,
matt

Matt, the previous sound posts were: “audio recorders” and “digital voice recorders”. Type them into the “search” feature in the upper right of the screen. Davin

Thanks Davin. Looks like that was the info I needed. Any news on large format cameras?

Matt, Well, photographer Alec Soth http://www.alecsoth.com/ uses K.B. Canham http://www.canhamcameras.com/ or R.H. Phillips & Sons 8×10 view cameras. Davin.

Matt, it all depends on what you’re doing with it. asking “what 4×5” is good” might be a bit like asking “what cuffs, collar, size and fabric will i like better in a bespoke tayloring, and will i prefer Kilgour or Davies and Sons’ fitting at the inseam ?” without saying if you intend to be chauffered, take the tube, or play polo.

you can still get speed graphics type cameras from that time when PJ’s shot 4×5, you can also get something like a linhof technica, and if you need more movements and have a car or a donkey, you can get something like a sinar P (the F, or “field camera”, has less movements). Arca also makes very nice ones. Then again, i’m swiss, and those are the ones we’re taught on, so i’m pretty sure you’ll find other stuff that’ll suit.

regarding supplies, you want multiple backs (they’re acceptably expensive), maybe something to load them with when you’re in the field (tricky, but can come useful…), and possibly a polaroid back with type 55 positive / negative film if you’d like to preview your work or do b&w.
