Leandro HBL was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1977. He graduated in Communication and Arts at Pontificia Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC MG – 1999) where he also teaches Audiovisual Communication.
In 1996 he created MOSQUITO PROJECT where he was the creative director working with video, illustration, graphic design, photography, cinematography and interactive design. In 1999 debuted as a filmmaker with a documentary about 40 years of Cuban revolution also studied cinematography at the International School of Cinema and TV of San Antonio de Los Baños. From 2003 t0 2006 joined FABRICA’s Audiovisual Department where he develops creative work in photo, video, cinema and installations (www.fabrica.it). Also at this period started an intense collaboration with the German production company EMENES based in Stuttgart (www.emenes.de).
Several of his pieces were selected for film & video festivals and art exhibitions around the world. Including; Videoex Zurich Switzerland; San Francisco Film Festival USA; VideoBrazil international art festival SP Brazil; Latin American DigiFest; JVC video festival Tokio Japan; CineEsquemaNovo film festival RS Brazil; Paco das Artes RJ Brazil.
His recent works are based on the concept of time. Different layers of time interacting in the same spatial dimension. Time as a feeling rather than a strict period. He is currently working on an audiovisual diary based on the concept of boundary, limit.
