Lightroom on Macbook (black vs. pro)
Does anyone have experience running Adobe Lightroom on the Apple Macbook black 13” model? Or preferably how it runs on that vs the 15” Macbook Pro?
I need to upgrade my powerbook, but frankly i find 15” is a bit big most of the time. The spotty teenagers in the apple store tried to convince me that I would never get lightroom to run properly on anything without a `dedicated graphics card’, but i have little faith they actually know what they’re talking about.
I just need something that is light enough to carry on regular press gigs and longer trips on the road, but isn’t going to p!ss me off or be inconvenient when i really have to push work through in a hurry…

trouble with all the macbooks except for the pro is that the screens are glossy, which can be a big pain in the arse when trying to do color critical work as well as any work outdoors.
I’ve got macbook white and lightroom running good- no worries
I even run Aperture on a macbook white without trouble. Aperture has bigger system reqs than lightroon, so I figure that Lightroom will run smooth.
My macbook works just fine with Lightroom and PS cs2 and Mail and Photomechanic all running at the same time. Just be sure you put in the maximum RAM. I am sure the Macbook Pro runs smoother than it’s smaller brother but no problems on my side.
I have been running Lightroom on my old Powerbook 12” for many month until the motherboard crashed (wich has nothing to do with the use of LR). Now I have a MacBook Pro 15 and of course everything run smoothly. I guess that if LR run on the older Powerbook it must run on the Macbook.

I have been running Lightroom on my wife’s Macbook 13” white model, no problems (I am waiting to get a copy of OS 10.5 so I can actually run Lightroom on my machine – buying Lightroom in the Maldives or online for that matter, is like trying to find snow in the desert…but don’t get me started).

I run Lightroom on my white 2.16 gh Macbook. It works fine. No worries at all.

Seems like the spotty kids were after a commision more than anything. However, if you get the chance a dedicated graphics card is always handy to help the laptop chug along.
Hey, just to let you know that I also run Lightroom on a 13” white Macbook. So far so good!
thanks to everybody for their comments – i’m writing to you on my new black macbook, and so far, i’m very satisfied. ciao +a.

The kiddos in the Apple Store may be thinking about Aperture, which is very dependent on the video card for processing images (Apple’s Core Image thing). I ran Lightroom on an old G4 for a year before buying a new machine this fall. My son runs LR on a iBook G4 without problems
If you ever want to run a separate monitor off of your MB you may be limited in screen size because of the limited video RAM.
i dont know if you already have LR but one thing to consider is the current maximum pixel limit for importing images – currently at 10000 pixels – so if you plan on bringing any 6×7s (or larger) scanned in at full whack say 4000ppi (or if you have any stitched digital pans then you might hit some problems – not sure how aperture handles big files…
I am interested in the mb necesary for run a separate monitor, did the white macbook have the necesary to do it. Or I need some more power to run Aperture and another display? thanks
Aperture worked fine with my Macbook with 1 Gig Ram, didn’t need a second monitor either
If you want to run a second monitor, you really need a MB Pro.
Also, not all MB’s are glossy. It’s a choice.
Are people really using LightRoom? I could never get it to do anything as well as dedicated programs like PS, Photo Mechanic, and Media Pro. Did I miss something?

Michael, Check the Apple Store. All new MacBooks that are not the Pro ones have Glossy Screens.
Aaron, thanks.
That sucks!
Luckily, my Powerbook G4 is still really fine.
