I don’t think anyone posts photos on Flickr to sell them. I discovered Flickr through Lightstalkers and used it at first as a means of adding extra images to my Lightstalkers page. I doubt Lightstalkers is receiving money from Yahoo. If I continue to post images to Flickr it’s because 1) I find it a good discipline to do so (structuring…) 2) It works as a kind of visual blog that I can link to from my web site – less formal, more fun, allows me to casually update content without having a big story or series 3) It’s like a giant pinboard for putting up ideas 4) I find it very useful to get feedback from people outside the rarified atmosphere of the “photo world” – it’s interesting (and often humbling) to see which images get a reaction and which don’t 5) There are a lot of competent, enthusiastic, well-informed people out there and it’s good to be able to exchange with them in a relaxed manner (remember photography as fun?).

I think David has a point about getting feedback from non-professionals on Flickr. I had another look at my latest addition after having gotten unsolicited comments from two women.
I have also opened an account at Photoshelter.com afterward. The two experiences have taught me to fill out the file information for each of my graphic files in Photoshop since at both sites, they read the file information and put them in appropriate locations.

A complementary view, what flickers are discussing about selling through flickr in here.
