About

Welcome to my world in PiCtUreS.  I lost my first Minolta at the Coliseum in Rome.  I collect polaroid cameras from Goodwill stores across the US.   When asked to photograph "family" in my first documentary class, I chose the family of Harley-Davidson riders.  Met a guy named Digger and he gave me the amazing gift of access to a bunch of bikers for about 10 weeks as we rode around from AZ to Mexico.  After finishing with a biology degree from the U of A, I studied photography at ICP.   A project photographing Bronx motels at night lead to a larger project about motel signs that became my subject during many road trips, one of which lead to a lighthearted project featuring catchy church marquee signs along the bible belt in the south.  In Savannah, my car got a flat and a guy named Slaughter helped me fix it.    So much to learn from people while listing to their stories.  As my camera started producing more work outside of the city, it was time to explore photography elsewhere.  That is why I'm currently doing social documentary work and outreach in Latin America.

Photography Programs in Latin America

Does anyone know of any interesting photography programs that people are running in South or Central America? Perhaps something alternative through an organization or institution, with children or a specific social group, or even travel photography groups that visit from other parts of the world.

I’m especially looking for projects that might be based in Colombia, Venezuela, and up towards Central America, but it would be interesting to know of any other innovative projects that photographers are doing in other Latin American countries, too.

My friend and I carried out a digital photo project called OJOS nuevos that let at risk youth in Santiago de Chile take pictures. We’re looking to do the same in another place or get involved with other projects. You can check out the video OJOS here:

Thanks!
