1) Forecastle Fest 2007 :: Multimedia
http://www.patrickyen.com/forecastle
I was only responsible for editing the videos in this piece
and for the pieces original interactive design.
For my design I chose to publish the video and photo galleries side-by-side.
Circa July 2007.
Gathered video by Chris Little,
stills by Christian Hansen and many, many others.
Syndicated on Lightstalkers:

2) Louisville Skate Park Looping 360 Degree Motion Panoramic
http://www.patrickyen.com/skate360

I also produced a 38-minute tutorial on how to make these:

Originally published on MultimediaShooter

I produced my first video pano for ADP
two weeks before Google announced their new “Street View” for Google Maps
though it is not very good (circa May 2007):
http://www.americandiversityproject.org/2007/daily/dayfour/dayfourpan/
Disclaimer: Very heavy and outdated process due to the development of PaperVision3d.
3) American Diversity Project :: Mississippi Delta

I served at ADP-2007 as the multimedia director
with a team of three others:
Sara Holcombe, Patrick Smith, and Matt Fields-Johnson.
The aforementioned links are what we produced non-profit in five days,
circa May 2007.
ADP is put together by Jim and Carla Winn,
who are also both current ‘informal’ members of the Global Journalism Group.
4) Global Journalism Group Videos
http://www.gonzopj.net/media
http://www.lightstalkers.org/global-journalism-group-videos
As of current, the first two videos are Sara Holcombe’s
and the last ten videos are mine.
I did not design this media player, it is a Brightcove template.
I am simply listing this link as a pointer to some of the videos I’ve produced.
5) Videobred Website (Beta)
http://www.patrickyen.com/newwebsitebeta/
I designed this website when I was working at Videobred in April of 2006.
Videobred is one of the top video production companies in Louisville KY (my hometown)
and I worked there as a full-fledged video editor and multimedia producer over a year ago.
I understand they still intend to use this site,
but they’ve yet to officially launch it pending some undecided changes.
6) Various discussions I have authored or co-authored on Lightstalkers:
http://www.lightstalkers.org/links_to_lightstalkers_posts_which_i_have_authored
I have written these posts within the past year on Lightstalkers.
Various highlights include:

7) P O E T R Y
http://www.gonzopj.net/poetry2
http://www.lightstalkers.org/p_o_e_t_r_y
Instead of reporting about a poetry slam with summary and interpretation,
why not just deliver it?
Circa March 2006.
8) Fakemustaches.org
http://www.fakemustaches.org
The final report I wrote for Tim Broekema’s Web Publishing class at WKU
detailing the first week of fakemustaches.org
can be read here (circa May 2006):
http://www.fakemustaches.org/final
It has since evolved into somewhat of a viral web 2.0 sensation
with a top ranking on Google and Yahoo
everytime the term “fake mustaches” is searched.
Public web statistics:

9) Journalism ‘Manifestos’
http://www.gonzopj.net/v089.html (circa January 2006)
http://www.gonzopj.net/global/new/v6.6.html (circa October 2006)
http://www.gonzopj.net/global/ (finished manifesto circa Xmas 2006)
The Global Journalism Group ‘Manifesto’ was a year in the making,
and the finished manifesto “Can You Argue With A Question?”
is politically neutral and anti-monolithic.
10) Still photography and personal website
http://www.lightstalkers.org/galleries/slideshow/8495
I also have a still gallery
and a randomized pool of images on the frontpage of my website
(which desperately needs to be updated):

11) J. Graham Brown School
http://www.patrickyen.com/brownschool
Experiment I did with vertical video
featuring two former students, two former teachers, and two former parents
discussing the high school I went to,
the J. Graham Brown School.
Circa April 2006.
12) WKU Two Day Film Challenge
http://www.patrickyen.com/tdfc
This is a syndicated film-fest I put together in October 2005
(I didn’t produce any of the films featured).
I designed it before I had even heard of Youtube.
It can be syndicated into people’s blogs or Myspace profiles,
just as Youtube movies can be,
but it is thirteen films instead of one.
I haven’t seen anybody attempt this design approach since I introduced it
over two years ago now.
Originally won an SND monthly competition award for June 2006:
http://www.snd.org/competitions/sndies.lasso?ID=34561
13) Wild and Woolly Video Commercial
http://www.patrickyen.com/main/video/wildandwoolly.html
I produced this video probono for a video store in Louisville, KY
back in August of 2004.
I did not shoot one frame of video for it,
it was animated from over 500 still photographs I shot with a Canon 10D.
It is a live-action stop go animation similar to
Ed Kashi’s “Flip Book” Kurdistan presentation,
albeit produced awhile before that.
The audio, music, and sound effects for the commercial
were all made by the mouth of Bennett Duckworth.
This is where my production skill-set and vision was at age 20.
14) Global Journalism Group
http://www.globaljournalism.org
I co-founded the Global Journalism Group with Kenneth Malapote as an experiment
back in the December of 2005.
Since then I have been responsible for its production, design, and maintenance,
though I do not have the time to update it regularly.
We have accomplished a great deal in terms of introducing new and original theories, philosophies, predictions, experiments, and even precedents,
considering that we are a non-profit informal ‘collective’
as of current operating on virtually no budget and for no pay.

15) Personal Code of Ethics
http://gonzopj.blogspot.com/2007/06/personal-code-of-ethics.html
Paper I wrote last semester for my Journalism Ethics class at WKU
detailing my personal code of ethics as well as detailing new concerns facing multimedia journalists.
16) Halfway to Forecastle 2008 :: Multimedia
http://www.lightstalkers.org/halfway-to-forecastle-2008-multimedia
I edited the video, edited the diptych photo gallery,
and designed the interactive multimedia presentation for this piece.
Circa January 2008.
17) Aurora Photos Videos
A) Eagle Lady – http://www.auroraphotos.com/storytelling/eaglelady/large.shtml
Video I produced while interning as the multimedia producer
at Aurora Photos during the Spring of 2008.
B) Scarification – http://www.auroraphotos.com/storytelling/scarification/flv.shtml
Another video I produced while interning as the multimedia producer
at Aurora Photos during the Spring of 2008.
18) American Diversity Project 2008 | Multimedia
http://www.americandiversityproject.org/2008/multimedia/
The American Diversity Project is an annual week-long documentary project
where student, amateur, and professional photojournalists
photographed Pikeville, Kentucky in May 2008.
There are six panoramics and five videos that play back-to-back.
I produced the first four videos and designed the interactive multimedia presentation.
The interactive panoramics may be viewed by clicking on the thumbnails
in the bottom right-hand corner of the presentation.
The sixth panoramic is ‘hidden’ and appears after the last video finishes playing.
I produced the videos featured as diptych/dichotomy pieces,
often piecing two images together per shot.
Part of the idea behind this presentation is that two images placed together
could somewhat resemble a spread of two pages out of a magazine or newspaper.

20) Forecastle Festival 2008 | Multimedia

Circa July/August 2008.
Here is a link to my resume:
http://www.patrickyen.com/resume.html
It’s always outdated and needs to be updated.
I am working on a great deal more projects that have yet-to-be finished.
Thanks to all and I hope you enjoy.
Peace be with you.
