“I am a professional photographer based in Liverpool and work throughout the UK.
I’m influenced by all sorts of photography, in particular photojournalism and abstract imagery. My heros are Henri Cartier-Bresson and Don McCullin, for their take on the world. Going back further in time I love the work of Imogen Cunningham and her art portraits. The people that I like today are both well known, for example Martin Parr and Tom Woods and relatively unknown, such as Paul Russell, who is based on the south coast and is a discovery via Flickr.
My own work is news and event based, I love the immediacy of working to press deadlines, be it newspapers, or simply to a tight business schedule. I’ve been fortunate in the four years since I turned professional that my work has been published widely and long may that continue. Also I enjoy live music photography and work at quite a lot of festivals, specialising in world music artists."
David has recently worked for some exciting clients including Guardian Newspaper, Getty Images, Liverpool John Moores University, The Big Chill Festival, Glastonbury Festival, Writing on the Wall Festival, Childline, The Open University, Virgin Mobile, Revolution Bars, The Times Education Supplement, and the Institute of Civil Engineers, to name just a few.
Also he reached the final stages of the BBC’s Photographer of the Year competition in 2006, and in May 2007 his images were featured on a series of stamps published by the Isle of Man Post Office. In August 2007 David was one of 8 photographers to produce a exhibition of 800 people portraits, taken on one day to celebrate Liverpool’s 800th birthday. November 2007 saw David working with up and coming band ‘The Wombats’ to produce their debut album artwork. 2008 has started brightly for David, some of his Liverpool music photographs have featured in the Guardian newspaper, while his images from Lisbon featuring the cancellation of the Lisbon to Dakar rally are receiving favourable interest from a number of international newspapers and magazines.
