Hay Mustafa, how are thing in NYC?
I’ll just second the recommendation for pacsafe.
The metal mesh for a backpack is good for when you leave a bag in th ehotel, but I wouldn’t use it anywhere else.
It screams “expensive gear”.

That said- their camera straps & small backpacks are excellent security wise.
They embed metal wires in the straps so they can’t be cut and they have some nice locking systems which aren’t visible from the outside, so you look inconspicuous from that point of view.

hey gidi. everything is well on the east coast.

i checked out pacsafe and thought the very same thing. i was hoping to see if anyone used military grade locks or something serious as their everyday security devices. i don’t want to buy any more bags.

Well, the annoying truth is that no lock will help against a slash of a knife at the bag its self.
The are plenty of good locks (and as a person who spent several year in the military I can tell you, they don’t use particularly strong lock. No stronger than you can get at any good treking or hardware store.) but they are very limited at what they can actually guard.

I guess the real question is – what exactly is the situation your afraid of?
Snatchers? Slashers? Pick pockets?

lockers and containers, mainly. snatchers and slashers, not so much. i’m looking for a pretty solid general lock i could use in hostels and similar situations.

i’ve checked out REI and some of their stuff is too flashy.

No need to buy a whole new stupid bag. Instead, mesh the old: http://www.pacsafe.com/www/index.php?_room=3&_action=detail&id=11

ah, you talking about locking a locker?
Sorry, I don’t really have experience with that kind of lock, so I can’t recommend anything in particular, but why won’t any normal heavy duty carbonated (blackened) lock do?
I don’t think they are difficult to find…
