5D Compaints/ Noise?

Hello everyone. Been playing around with a friend’s new 5D and been a bit perplexed by what appears to be a large amount of noise in the darker mid-tones and shadows. I am seeing a lot of color banding and dithering, even at low ISO’s. After all the praise I’ve heard about this camera, I am not sure what to make of it. Anyone have opinions/feedback? Are there some settings that need adjustment straight out of the box?
