Looking for Photography of Domestic Violence

Proof: Media for Social Justice is looking for photographers who have work dealing with or pertaining to Domestic violence.

Proof: Media for Social Justice will launch a photography exhibition focused on three major themes found in gender-based violence: 1) Sexual Slavery, 2) Domestic Abuse, 3) Rape as a Weapon of War.

We are still looking for photography of Domestic abuse.

The exhibition will display photography from all over the globe illustrating the fact that GBV is not an isolated issue, and instead devastatingly widespread. By seeing real people who have suffered through violence and survived, the project aims to spotlight their stories and disseminate the message that this in not acceptable.

The mission of this project is to provide a space for reflection and facilitate an interactive dialogue on GBV for the world community gathered to participate in the World Cup, taking place in South Africa 2010. Towards this goal, seminars and lectures will be conducted using the exhibits as an educational tool as they travel to Durbin, Cape Town and Johannesburg.

The exhibition will be launched in partnership with Man UP. Man Up is an international call to action for young adults to eradicate violence against women (VAW) using music, sport, and technology. On the occasion of one of the largest gatherings in the world, World Cup 2010 in South Africa, Man Up will host a global youth summit with the goals of supporting organizations tackling VAW, building a network of youth advocates and defenders, and linking the efforts of mainstream organizations with the corporate, arts and sports communities.

In the days before the World Cup begins, The Man Up Youth Summit will bring together a diverse group of 200 young men and women aged approximately eighteen to twenty-five years representing 32 World Cup competing nations and 18 at-risk countries, who are committed to eradicating violence against women within their communities. Summit participants will be given the tools they need-and want-to plan and execute proposed initiatives, including seed grants with the support of a worldwide network of NGO partners.

Before traveling to the three noted South African cities, the exhibition will first launch as part of the Man Up Youth Summit. It will serve as an integral arts and media tool to educate and facilitate discussion among the summit’s participating 200 young men and women.
Proof will also partner with the Women’s Refugee Commission and the Gender Commission in South Africa.

You can have a look on my archives page.
