LS members in Delhi/Meetup?
I see you guys like to get together to chat and drink, and I’m going to be in Delhi on the 24,25th before going to Kashmir the 26th? Would really like to meet and get travel advice- like where to get a salwar kameez made-when I was in South India last year most of my NYC attire was causing me problems, and this time I’ll be alone. Let me know if we can arrange something..

Hi, its a great idea i am game for it ….if not working the only hitch! hope to see guys soon!

Nancy, I don’t want to take away the fun of getting a salwar kameez made JUST for you, but a great place to get Indian clothes off the rack is Fabindia. It also sells a lot of other good textile and needle goods. Every day I’m still using a Fabindia towel that I bought in 2004.
As an institution Fabindia also has a good social service history (I am told). And there is also the so-called “Fabindia” faction in the parliament (the young “turk” members who wear their Fabindia togs mixed with western garments).
In Delhi their store is at Connaught Place (actually several stores)at B-28, Upper Ground Floor, Inner Circle. Any competent taxi or three-wheeler driver can take you there. It’s a colorful place.

Hi Manpreet. We changed the date to the 25th of October. Hope you will also be free
|
Thanks Neal for telling me about Fabindia, I checked out the site and their clothes look quite nice. I don’t have much time in Delhi, so that might be the quicker alternative.- though Indian tailor shops do make clothes incredibly fast.

I like Anokhi even better than Fabindia. I get lots of compliments on their clothes here in the US.
http://www.anokhi.com
They are very well known for taking care of their employees and great business practices.
Try their store at the Santushti shopping complex. Lots of other great stores there too. A boutique center.

No probs will try to make it on 25th …..and will try to spread the word. cheers romana

I don’t know anything about Anokhi, but I see they have stores at the Khan Market. While in Delhi you ought to check out the Khan Market area anyway…an interesting place (to me) where there are many good photo-ops as well. There is a food market near there which has even better pic potentials.
In fact, where is there in India that does not have phenomenal photo-ops? Wish I were going with you.

Manpreet, hope to see you there-sounds like good times at Stone Bar.
Cathy, Neal thanks for the clothing and market suggetions, it sounds shallow to be concerned about that but I’m really hoping it will make things easier for me.
Anyone have hotel suggestions; I just struck out at the Tibetan Buddist Wongdhen House, which is inexpensive and CLEAN, but they’re booked through Nov. 20th.
|
hi, Nancy, which part of delhi are you looking for a hotel and wats ur budget!!!
|
Hi Manpreet- My priority is clean, not dark/ depressing, and quiet(bad sleeper)-@ $25-30 range. I understand Delhi is more expensive than other places but the Tibeten place was inexpensive and seemed to be exactly right. Know any others in that neighborhood that aren’t in the guide books?
