Lunar Eclipse / Ansel Adams Birthday

A combination of events is happening this Wednesday February 20th and I wanted to share it with the lightstaler community. The path of a total lunar eclipse will be visible (atmospheric conditions cooperating) for us in North America, Central / South America, Western Europe, Africa and Western Asia on what would be the 106th birthday of famous american photographer / author and conservationist Ansel Adams. I will be leading a group of photographers and outdoor enthusiasts on a short hike to observe and photograph this celestial event in Boulder, Colorado on Wednesday, February 20th. If this gathers interest from others I think it would be great to put together a collage of images of the eclipse from all over the world in the path of the this celestial event to commemorate Ansel Adams on a special birthday he would have appreciated.

Damn I’m out of the path. There’s a diagram on this page that shows its path relative to a map of the world.

Hey how wonderful. How fun! I’ll definitely be there in spirit. Here’s a link I’d like to share—contributing to the spirit of the event and the last impressions of Ansel Adams! How to photograph a Moonbow

Clouds are threatening along the front range in Colorado today and tonight.
Fingers crossed for a timely patch of clear skies. Best of luck to the rest of you trying to capture the event.

Good luck. Maybe the satelite will come down as well.

Very nice Bob! Boulder was layered in thin high clouds and kept me from getting a good view.

Same here Peter-wish I’d paid you a visit Bob :-))
Anyone get any shots ?

I may have gotten a few, but all I had was a 30D with a 70-200 and a 1.4X converter, (about 448mm true focal length)...and no tripod, but a monopod.

We had a great view here up until about 10:30 when the clouds rolled in and covered it almost completely.

Shake rattle and roll !! Post em up then Andrew! I had planned to do just that seeing as it happened in the UK at 3-4 a.m. when the days papers were already printed and would be old news by the time Sunday’s papers roll out.
Looks like I’ll have to wait until my retirement in 2015 :-((

Ok, I got a couple I guess….

I didn’t think to take off the extender when it went into the full umbra stage, it would have given me another stop worth of light…

Wish I’d had a tripod handy! The shots published in the papers here were all captured with telescope setups…

Very nice Andrew, thanks for sharing. Telescope with tracking is the way to go for sure!
I must make light of my frustrating situation last night in cloudy Boulder with this link.
