Lunatic, a new creative photography ezine
|
The international collective of photographers Luna (www.lunaphotos.com) is pleased to announce the release of the first issue of the new online magazine Lunatic. The magazine Lunatic will be online on June 20th 2007. Lunatic gives the opportunity to photographers to promote original stories and images. It also aims to provide space for creative work within contemporary photojournalism.
Lunatic has been designed as a book. We love books but their diffusion is nowadays too restricted. We want to open new doors and encourage national newspapers and magazines to publish original images. Photography is not only about information. It also is a fantastic personal way of writing stories and expressing ideas and emotions.
Lunatic is a bi-annual image online magazine presenting new work from known and unknown talented photographers from all around the world. The target audience of Lunatic is the photographer community, the picture editors who want to discover new creative works and all people interested in contemporary photography.
The first issue publishes creative quality images from Bernd Arnold, Elisabeth Blanchet, Karl Blanchet, Cyril Cavalié, Francesco Cocco, Markus Lokai, Frederic Pauwels and Christophe Smets.

Liked the images, concept, and presentation. Hate the sound and the navigation. I like the page-flip thing, but could not navigate back to the contents.
I might be in the minority, but I find web pages that start playing sounds when loaded really annoying. It seems very invasive for stuff to happen on a page without my clicking a button. And I didn’t see a way to turn the sound off.
I like reading online stuff at work or in Starbucks on a laptop, etc. I would rather have optional sound than mandatory sound.

I was annoyed by the music too, but there is an off button on the lower left.

In Firefox, maximized, I see only the main panel and a hint of something below it, which I can’t see or reach. So I can’t turn the sound off.

It seems that the menu below the page does not appear on some screens. We will make a change.
On this menu, you have:
a turn on/off button for the music
and a button to directly go back to the menu.

Nice work. Look forward to being inspired by future issues.
I do have to agree with a few others that having the music default to ‘on’ is less than ideal but,in truth,
it’s only a mouseclick away from being turned off.
For interests sake,check out the photographer site,www.johnhuet.com. He’s also using the magazine template but
without the page turning effect. Nice navigation bar along the bottom.
As i understand it,he had different designers/art directors ‘guest design’ each chapter.
Might be an interesting concept to keep in the back of your mind as a way to have some of Lunas editorial clients participate in
the creating of your ezine.

Design looks pretty much the same as NeoCollective except that NeoCollective has small tabs on the side so one can easily take a shortcut to different artist without going back to the index page.
Yeah, music is annoying but makes one feel good and powerful when click ‘music off’ button…

Dear all,
we are still at the very early stage of Lunatic. The next step will be to find sponsors. The first issue was self-funded (except the distribution). We will need to raise a few $,£ and euros (other currencies will also be very welcome) before we launch the second issue. I will ask you to give us a bit more time (we have just released the first issue) before you submit any new work.
We will keep you updated on this issue (submission) as soon as we are clearer on deadlines. But the priority will be sponsoring. Any good ideas from you are welcome.

I looked at the magazine when you first posted at the beginning of June and indeed, i like this new version much much more (the music makes sense now :)))))….and it’s not as intrusive and it makes aural sense to me as im “flipping” through the magazines…i like most of the stories (content) and i like the ease of navigation too…im happy that’ you’ve made some modifications and have a rich amalgam of story (pics), content (theme) and music…its a lovely product…congrats all and well done to the Lunatic team ;)))

Looks great. Little slow loading the pages towards the “back” but that could just as easily be this end.

Looks pretty good, although I will venture a wild guess here and say that there arent too many Sarkozy fans in some of those pics. I actually like the flipped page effect; I can’t say all that much about the music-I didnt listen to it. I always turn the music off. I know I shouldnt, that it is there to enhance the overall experience, but if I want to see pictures and music together I’ll turn on The Tube Network or go to a movie. Overall, though, great stuff.

I love it! I agree that it would be nice being able to go back to the main contents from any page, but I love the concept, the design, the navigation, and very especially, the content. If you don´t like the music, simply turn it off. Congratulations.
