m6ttl batteries

ok… how long should a new pair of batteries last in my m6ttl. with the cold weather i’m going through them almost weekly (about 8-10 rolls/week, i try to turn it off but i don’t always remember)

if anyone has an on/off battery switch for the compartment for sale that would be great!

8-10 rolls is very fast, Edward. I don’t know how many films I get out of a pair of batteries but it’s a hell of a lot more than that. Certainly over 100. I’d say you have some sort of electrical problem. Either that or you’re storing the camera in such a way that the shutter release button is always slightly depressed, so the LEDs and the light meter are always on. PHC.

Paul’s right. Something’s wrong. Either electrical or, as he says, it’s being stored with shutter release held slightly down (snug camera bag). My M6ttl goes thru batteries in months, certainly not weeks. Mine is always out and never stored so I don’t have a problem with the shutter release being held “in”. I do not turn it off—ever. I just leave it on whatever shutterspeed with the shutter advanced and ready. I use Varta batteries.

If you do carry yours in a bag then it’s not a bad idea to turn it off (making sure that the shutter has already been fired) to ensure that the batteries aren’t being drained.

i had the same problem, then i bought my batteries at a different dealer and they lasted much longer. try a different brand or a different shop.

I’d go with Peter on this one and try just switching brands first. I bought my TTL in May and shot about a hundred rolls with the original battery. This past November I changed them and noticed after just a few weeks the LEDs were starting to lose their intensity. It turns out that the batteries from the pharmacy were old and on their way out. Not many people buy the 357 size I guess so they sit and sit. If the problem persists I’d get in contact with Leica. Goodluck.

Only problem I’ve ever had in the M6ttl and the M7 has been the contacts needed cleaning. I used a pencil eraser. I stick with Duracell for battery dependability.
