M7 DX function

I’ve got to the stage where I don’t trust the DX reader on my M7. I often don’t check, but the LED indication in the viewfinder seems to flash 100 on startup when I have Tri-X in there. I’m usually too busy at that moment to figure out what’s happening and just set the film speed manually, but it’s bloody annoying. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a magic fix, short of hitting it with a car? P.

Same has happened to mine. Also the wheels on the back for changing film speed and pushing/pulling are pretty ceased up on my M7 and M6. Too much grime and sweat. Time for a service me thinks!

I had an M7 for awhile and I never used DX settings. I also so an intermittant ISO 100 when I would turn on the camera. I had to tap it on my open hand (like you may do to get a roll of film out of the camera) and it would then read correct ISO on a restart. If I remember right the camera should always show you the current ISO setting when the camera is turned on.

I’m not much for the blinking lights either. What did they think we would never be shooting Tri-x at 200 or something? Such a simple thing. If you have it set at 200, it should read 200 in the display.

If you have ISO 400 loaded, that is what should show on the display. There are two things that would cause it to read 100, damaged unreadable DX code or no DX code. Both unlikely in my opinion. If you have a different speed set, ASA flashes for about 15 seconds. Clean the DX code reader contacts? Film not loaded correctly?

Maybe the the M9 will correct this shortfall. Hahhaa Right!

To be honest I’d be perfectly happy with M6 TTLs – I prefer the TTL over the basic M6 because the shutter speed dial is much easier to use. The only real advantage of the M7 to me is the shutter lock. I guess I’ve only used the auto function a couple of times – I prefer to know what’s happening.
