Magnum are out in front right now. Very innovative. Retaining Martin’s services appears to be serving them very well indeed.

Ouch, we can’t see all the pictures the way before, when I select all the images and then one to zoom in the system ask for password. Only the tiny pictures. Boo.

hey guys! i am excited to see the new magnum website up and running. however i also have to say the design credits have to go to the great, great webdesign agency group94 (http://group94.com/). it’s the same agency who designed carl de keyzers awsome looking website (http://www.carldekeyzer.com/). and as i just noticed they also did a new website for lauren greenfield (http://www.laurengreenfield.com/).

however… regarding the new magnum site: i have been involved with the site to a certain degree for a year and a half now. having said that i also want to stress that magnum’s new site was not done by me! the credits have to go to many, many other people who put much time and nerves into it! i was mainly working on magnum in motion related stories, essays, the site, the podcasts, proposals, etc.
right now i am working on something else for magnum which i am excited about and which i hope will be really, really fine. ;-)

if you find any bugs on the new site please post them here. the new site has been a major relaunch that did not only include a new design. and part of the nature of such a major relaunch are some bugs in the beginning of course. i am sure it would help to point out some of them if you stumble upon them.

At least it is faster than the previous one.

Aw c’mon… No comments on the website over the last 12 hours? No bugs spotted? I’d be surprised… Maybe you’re all out there taking pictures instead of checking on websites… That’s how it should be…

by John Vink | 14 Nov 2006 14:11 | Phnom Penh, Cambodia |
Well John, was dying to have a small (to major) swipe, but restrained…! :-) .....One thing for you though, where’s the bloody boxing book…!!!!

I’ve had a good look and all seems well smooth. I guess it’s not so difficult to get the front of the site near enough spot on from the get go but I imagine if there are to be bugs in the system, they’ll most likely be in the extensive archive search facility given that it’s more complex.

hey john/martin: well, i do have a couple of things.

1) i wish that magnum had not locked the old features behind a password screen. lots of us spent a lot of time looking and learning from you guys. old features should be available to the public – we love it :)

2) i noticed that once you are looking at a particular photographer’s lightbox, there is no convenient way to return to the photographer’s main page. for example, if i am looking at a feature from jonas bendikson and scrolling through the lightbox, i can’t return to his main page or feature page. i have to go all the way back to the list of photographers. it would be nice to have a link back up to the photographer’s page.

Spot on Asim… I don’t know why the public wouldn’t have access to those features anymore… I’ll push (very) hard to bring that back.

And I told them about that navigation problem one month ago already.

Steve: the book is in the books section but not in ‘my’ section (as yet).

Anyhow, thanks for the bugs spotting. Keep digging. I’m sure you’ll come up with many more…

John, here’s my two cents: on features, It would be much easier if we can see the pictures and the thumbnails on the same page. There’s plenty of space underneath the picture to have a scrollable horizontal thumbnails. As for the picture itself, i find the running slideshow a bit annoying as you don’t have control of how long you want to view each pictures. A manual click through would be ideal in this case. Will let you know if i notice anything else.

by Kemal Jufri | 15 Nov 2006 02:11 | Jakarta, Indonesia |
Ah, its there now John at the top, wasn’t yesterday…guess still adding content….

Yeah agree with you Kemal on the slideshow stuff – and that annoying timer symbol, so OVER designed…....

Like the new book spreads now, though think de.MO still do it best….
