I’m wondering if having an online portfolio, or some other searchable online presence, may effect visa issuance for some countries. I suspect this is not currently a major problem, as even high profile photogs still travel on tourist visas and seem to get around, however as governments become increasingly internet savvy I can envision this becoming an issue.

So does anyone know, is it common for consular officials to research an applicant online?
