An ArtPetron National Student Art Competition Grand Prize winner in Photography, Mark Lester Cayabyab has been a passionate storyteller since his first roll of 36-exposure color film when he was the editor in chief of their English high school paper, The Leader in 1998.
He convened the Sinag Club, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Communication’s pioneer camera club in 2002, and stood as founding editor in chief of an experimental campus paper, The COC Forum, in 2004.
Cayabyab apprenticed with Filipino photojournalist, Mel Cortez, for more than two years. He went thru a gamut of task under the tutelage of the veteran photojournalist who broke ground the concept of wedding photojournalism in the Philippines.
As a journalism student, his images were featured in two books, one of which was authored by noted Filipino art critic Dr. Alice Guillermo in 2005.
That same year, Newsbreak magazine published his articles as an intern, then as a contributor.
He collaborated with integrated marketing communications agencies that made his professional work used in commercial and editorial purposes. His byline also appears on the Philippine Daily Inquirer and ABS-CBnews.com as stringer.
Cayabyab is now associated with the Public Information Office of the City Government of Valenzuela, an industrial suburb north of Manila as a photographer, writer and chief editor of a community newspaper.
He worked on his Diploma in Photojournalism through a scholarship grant at the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University in 2012.
