About

Born in Umbria, Italy, after a carrier as a volleyball player he has worked as an assistant in a project for Fratelli Alinari (the world’s oldest photographic firm founded in Florence). After a brief experience in Toronto, Canada, he moved in 1992 to Vienna, where he started to work as a photo researcher for the Anzenberger Agency. He began frequent travel to the East and was based for five years in Sydney, Australia, a convenient base for producing a variety of reportages, such as The City Preparing for the Olympics, a project on Australian outdoor life and the Chatham Island for the Millennium feature. After many China-based assignments and features, he decided to relocate to Shanghai in 2004. His photos from Shanghai were widely published and shown at various galleries. In 2005 his feature on the Sigma Recycling Factory in Shanghai was projected at Visa Pour L’image, France. His Ping Pong School pictures were exhibited at the Leica Gallery in Solms.

He has been represented by the Anzenberger Agency since 1992, and a 16-page printed portfolio of his work on Shanghai was published by the agency in 2001 and the reportage on Chongqing featured in the Book East edited in 2008.

Freedom of Media in Danger in Italy

I would like to post the problem in order to make people understand the particular situation which Italians facing. I have the reason to believe that Italy has emerged in a danger and delicate situation due the control of Media of the prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. I dont think we can do much at the moment , but is still worth to make you aware and perhaps start to see italy in a different way from the usual way (Although we never occupied a place in History as a serious country).
Italy , according to the ranking of Reporters Sans Frontier is only on the 53rd position in the world, here the note who explain the particular situation of Italy : <<European Union gets good rankings, except Italy and Spain. Italy received a poor ranking (53rd) compared with the other European Union countries for the second year running. Silvio Berlusconi’s conflict of interests as head of government and owner of a media empire is still unresolved. Furthermore, a draft law to reform radio and TV broadcasting, tailored to Berlusconi’s interests, is likely to increase the threats to news diversity in Italy.>>
Especially in the last period the situation got worse.
Some intellectuals lead by Umberto Eco has started a petition for the freedom of press as Berlusconi sued three newspaper such as La Repubblica for posing just question of his ethical behave. here the link from the times which explain it better
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article6816390.ece
If you want you can sign the petition here in this link (in italian) I dont know what kind of effort this can make but at the moment there are not other way to fight. We hope in better times.
