Meet up in NYC next week?

I’ll be in NYC next Tuesday night to Sunday. I’ll be there for a ‘scouting trip’ – I’m looking to possibly move there this summer. I’d love to meet up if any of you will be around.

Cheers,
Lance

Here we go again.

Let’s see if we CAN’T get the NY LS boozers together again.

Preston, Gregory, JF, Erica, Mark? You up for another round with Lance and Bob?

by Paul Treacy | 13 Mar 2008 13:03 | New York City, United States |
Rather, I should have said Christopher.

by Paul Treacy | 13 Mar 2008 13:03 | New York City, United States |
O.K. but its somebody elses turn to wear a scarf this time. Seriously, I’d love to meet up but am going to be out of town for a few days starting Thursday the 20th. So for me it would have to be early next week. Otherwise I’m game.

by Mark Manley | 13 Mar 2008 14:03 | New York City, United States |
I’ve got a scarf. If it’s cold I’ll bring it.

by Paul Treacy | 13 Mar 2008 14:03 | New York City, United States |
:):):)...Hopefully towards the end of the week. Having a blood test on Thurs. A.M. and don’t want to mess things up. :(

by Gregory Sharko | 13 Mar 2008 14:03 | Brooklyn, New York, United States |
That sounds like a great idea; I’m drifting through the city on the 17th (a Monday, unfortunately) with my dark green scarf; but I am also dragging along a small army of my sister in law’s nieces and nephews and I think she’d get suspicious if I came home without them. On the other hand, if I sold the lot of them for organ transplants, I could afford a Leica. There’s something to think about.

by Akaky | 13 Mar 2008 15:03 (ed. Mar 13 2008) | New York , United States |
Yep, just name time and place.

by Preston Merchant | 13 Mar 2008 15:03 | New York, United States |
So here’s the date cross section, for the moment omitting Akaky who I don’t believe for second is really leaving his home town…but if you are, stay in the city a couple of days post niece/nephew?

Seems the only dates that Lance, Christopher and Mark will all make it are Tues 18 or Wed 19 (or mark can you also do Thurs 20?) I could do the 20th, but not the 18th/19th..

Or, sans Mark, the overlap becomes also the 20th – 23rd, depending on what time lance Parts..

Paul, who you callin’ a boozer :0

by erica mcdonald | 13 Mar 2008 15:03 | New York, United States |
O.K. I can’t do the 20th but then Akaky says he has a scarf so you don’t really need me anyway. Erica raises questions about Akakys credibility so I think Paul should bring a “back up” scarf, just in case. If I can’t be there Phuleeeezzz take some pics and post. : )

by Mark Manley | 13 Mar 2008 16:03 | New York City, United States |
I like Wednesday evening/night.. which could lead to more of the same on the weekend. I’ll be staying in Queens but will meet anywhere. I’ll count on the locals to come up with a good dive bar… maybe where the bartender doesn’t speak english and the beer is cheap?

by Lance Rosenfield | 13 Mar 2008 16:03 | Austin, Texas, United States |
I like Lance’s idea, local dives are good. Just remember, I grew up in Milwaukee so just make sure it’s good cheap beer (PBR counts).

I’m staying in Brooklyn if that matters on meeting location.

by Christopher Guess | 13 Mar 2008 16:03 | New York City, NY, United States |
I dont why people would doubt my credibility; I am the most credible person I’ve ever heard of, if you discount most of what I tell you, although the story of the reassembled deer and my barfing into the baptismal font on Easter Sunday happened more or less the way I describe them. In any case, just in case no one has spotted this yet, the April issue of Vanity Fair has an article on Robert Frank and the 50th anniversary of the publication of The Americans. You can find this on your newsstands now (I think) complete with a picture of Amy Poehler copping a feel off of Tina Fey.

by Akaky | 13 Mar 2008 16:03 (ed. Mar 14 2008) | New York , United States |
Well…if we meet on Wednesday 19thclose to where I need to be before that and ya’ll don’t run off right at 9 pm, I could join you..

What about here? they have bocce courts, never been but seems fun..

by erica mcdonald | 13 Mar 2008 17:03 | New York, United States |
9pm seems fine.. i’m out the door.. catch y’all later..

by Lance Rosenfield | 13 Mar 2008 17:03 | Austin, Texas, United States |
See you there

by Christopher Guess | 13 Mar 2008 17:03 | New York City, NY, United States |
I was just saying don’t LEAVE at 9..someone has to warm up the room and fight for a bocce court, so hopefully you will meet a little earlier?

by erica mcdonald | 13 Mar 2008 22:03 | New York, United States |
So..is this thing definite for Wed. night?

by Gregory Sharko | 13 Mar 2008 23:03 | Brooklyn, New York, United States |
i may be in the city on the 19 & 20. would be interested in swinging by, if possible…

by mustafah abdulaziz | 14 Mar 2008 11:03 | Montevideo, Uruguay |
oops Gregory, just saw about you not wanting to drink Wed nite..I’ll not drink with you in solidarity if you come out..

by erica mcdonald | 14 Mar 2008 12:03 | New York, United States |
nerts, Wednesday is definitely not a possibilty for me, with or without a mob of kids strung out on sugar tagging along. Excuse me whilst I hurl anathemas at Pope Gregory and his calendar

by Akaky | 14 Mar 2008 17:03 | New York , United States |
sorry Akaky, would love to meet you..you are quite the enigma!

by erica mcdonald | 14 Mar 2008 18:03 | New York, United States |
(looks at self in the mirror): You hear that, guy? You’re an enigma.

(Self in mirror looks back): Yeah, you’re an enigma, all right. Now when are you getting rid of those ratty sneakers? And pull up your socks while you’re at it; stop looking like something the cat dragged in, for chrissakes. Enigma, that’s a good one; enigma, my ass.

by Akaky | 15 Mar 2008 14:03 (ed. Mar 15 2008) | New York , United States |
I’m down with the LSNY boozers/non-boozers meeting up again…
It’s been too long. ;)

Is there a set time, date and venue? Or did I miss that part?

by J-F Vergel | 16 Mar 2008 17:03 | nyc, ny, United States |
I’m down with Wednesday, 9pm, Union Hall http://www.unionhallny.com/

by Lance Rosenfield | 16 Mar 2008 17:03 | Austin, Texas, United States |
Sorry, I can’t come up from DC as I have jury duty the next day…

Also I’m still observing my Lenten drying-out commitment (only one more week!!!! (I am frankly damn tired of O’Douls and the like!)

by Neal Jackson | 16 Mar 2008 18:03 | Washington, DC, United States |
yep, Wednesday, 9pm, Union Hall http://www.unionhallny.com/
someone please get a bocce court if you arrive early

by erica mcdonald | 16 Mar 2008 19:03 | New York, United States |
Neal, do you think the church shows mercy by having more opportunities to take communion during Lent?

by erica mcdonald | 16 Mar 2008 19:03 | New York, United States |
Geez, hadn’t thought of that, Erica. The Catholics are too, too clever.

However, in the Episcopal church (which I have been know to frequent only occasionally) as a rule the wine is so watered down that it doesn’t matter. That is ironic, because in the South there was a widespread assertion among (allegedly) tee-totaling Baptists: “Wherever you find four Episcopalians you’ll always find a Fifth.”

Right, Preston?

by Neal Jackson | 16 Mar 2008 22:03 | Washington, DC, United States |
Neal, let us know when jury duty is over and we’ll do it again afterwards… any reason for the LSNY boozers/non-boozers round table to get together seems like a plan.

How many Episcopalians does it take to change a light bulb?
Three…. One to change the bulb… and two to mix the martinis. (drum roll)

About martinis…
One is not enough two is just right and three is too many. (cymbal crash)

Or they’re like tits:
one is not enough, two is just right and three is too weird. (drum roll & cymbal crash)

In any case I’m going to get to the Union Hall early (around 8:00pm) and case the joint.

Do I need to bring my own balls – to play bocce? a scarf? a camera, so Bob can see what we’re up to?

See you all on Wed.

by J-F Vergel | 16 Mar 2008 23:03 | nyc, ny, United States |
Neal, if you want non-watered down wine, search out a local Eastern Orthodox church. Of course, if you participated in it, that would mean you have quite a while left in Lent….out Easter isn’t until april 27th this year!

I need to get to NYC for one of these meet-ups – you guys seem to have the most fun :)

by Andrew Brinkhorst | 17 Mar 2008 15:03 | Lexington KY, United States |
Exactly my point Andrew, the more opportunity for sacrifice, the more opportunity for reward!

by erica mcdonald | 17 Mar 2008 17:03 | New York, United States |
Hmm, Erica, excellent point! Now I know why there are so many services …

:D

I am hereby making an application for an honorary membership in the LSNY sub-group :)

Do I need to buy a scarf? Or is showing up ready to drink beverages, play pool (or other sports involving adult beverages and spheres) and take inspired photos of folks in dimly lit dive bars with gear capable of awesomely amazing ISO levels enough?

I may need to make a special trip to NYC just for this…..

by Andrew Brinkhorst | 17 Mar 2008 19:03 (ed. Mar 17 2008) | Lexington KY, United States |
Oh, and Neal…have you tried the O’Douls dark? I find it much better tasting (although harder to find) than the regular when necessity calls for non-alcoholic versions.

by Andrew Brinkhorst | 17 Mar 2008 19:03 | Lexington KY, United States |
I have returned from the jaunt to the big city, wherein, I should point out, I did, in fact, wear my dark green scarf just in case the odd LSer should wander by. The sister in law’s nieces and nephews are doing well. I, on the other hand, want to open an artery and end it all right now.

by Akaky | 17 Mar 2008 22:03 | New York , United States |
Andrew, I have had O’Doul’s Amber, which is a tad better than the regular (though not much), but have never seen a “dark.” Of course, I’d be game to try it, though the end of this sacrifice/madness is finally in sight (less than a week away!). I can then go back to Tequila shots or other blinding spirits (washed down with some Chimay Belgian ale).

by Neal Jackson | 18 Mar 2008 02:03 | Washington, DC, United States |
tonite..

how about some more women????

by erica mcdonald | 19 Mar 2008 13:03 (ed. Mar 19 2008) | New York, United States |
Erica, Susan may accompany me…

by J-F Vergel | 19 Mar 2008 13:03 | nyc, ny, United States |
Neal, my bad, iti s the Amber adn not “dark”. As you say, a bit better – but I completely understand moving back to the real thing.

You all have a blast – I wish I could get up there to meet you in person….

by Andrew Brinkhorst | 19 Mar 2008 14:03 | Lexington KY, United States |
I’m “in”. See everyone tonight.

by Mark Manley | 19 Mar 2008 14:03 | New York City, United States |
I’ll not make this gathering, unfortunately.

by Paul Treacy | 19 Mar 2008 15:03 | New York City, United States |
Paul, your presence will be missed…

by J-F Vergel | 19 Mar 2008 16:03 | nyc, ny, United States |
