On a lighter topic: It struck me recently that I know more news agency, newspaper and freelance photographers in South Africa and the rest of the continent who ride motorcycles than who don’t…..:)
Some use them only to beat traffic and make work easier(carrying all their gear on the bike), but most are ‘bikers’ and ride every day of their lives as a passionate, soulful extension of themselves.
Are there any other biking photographers out there?
Ps send picture of bike.(Only joking!)
Happy riding and good light.

Well, to my immense regret, I sold my wonderful Harley last year. I was just not riding it, and needed some coin for photo equipment. So I sold it to a co-worker. Alas!

I used to bike around London while shooting for the Press Association back in the 90’s. Had a wee Honda MTX chicken chaser which was just about peppy enough. It was tall and swallowed up bumps really well. Then rode a CB 500 for a while. That was a sweet machine.
I’m on my way back to old London town early next summer and will again, most likely, get a bike. It just cuts out so much stress. I think a Fazer 600 this time. Upright, quick and comfortable. Also effective for my anticipated frequent trips back to Ireland.
Looking forward big time.
Now, if only I had a picture of that little vomit yellow MTX…

Of course Burke Uzzle is the king of photojournalist/bikers. He was a member of Magnum for a long time and I believe was its managing director at one point.
Some of his Bike Week work is here

Check out my avatar! I don’t even own a car anymore… Ride the damn thing every day, year round. In Belgian weather, mind you. Been riding since I was eighteen. Thats 16 years of miles and broken bones!

BTW, before I got the Harley I had a BMW R65, a great bike for scooting around town. Wish I could get it back (there’s a story there, but I’ll spare you).

I’ve had a honda hornet 600 for three years, but sold it. to damn expensive to have mc, a car, and an apartment here. now I’ve sold all of it to move abroad though.
