Mumbai?
|
I’m looking for advice on where to stay in Mumbai. Possibly for an extended stay, possibly for a few weeks. Anyone here on Lightstalkers lived there? Worked there? Advice is much appreciated

Tell us what you’re doing and where you’re doing it. Mumbai is vast, with travel among neighborhoods very time consuming.
The YMCA hostel in Colaba is the popular cheap place (I haven’t stayed there, though):

Check the accommodations for the other branch locations, too.

Watch your equipment in Colaba, even if the door of your room is loocked!! If your budget is high, spent a night in the Taj Hotel.

Hi Michael, I am from Mumbai. If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. Yes, Colaba YMCA is the BEST. And yes, I agree, be careful with your stuff on the streets in Colaba. And yes, Welcome to Mumbai and India ! Santosh

Hi Michael, I live and work in Mumbai like many other lightstalkers here. How long do you intend to stay here? Which part of mumbai is your work concentrated in? Commuting in mumbai is a scary prospect even for seasoned mumbaikars like me, and especially in the monsoon months ahead – June to October. For a short stay there are plenty of options in the Colaba region depending on your budget. You can get a decent room with an Air conditioner for 30$ a night, but as David said, take care of your belongings as its a tourist heavy area. If you are staying for a month or more, you can get a flat on rent. Maybe you can talk to Jason, ( www.jasonlarkin.co.uk), a british photographer who was in mumbai recently for 6 weeks on a project. He had rented a place in the western suburb of Bandra (quite the cool-hip area). And you can always contact me if you need any help – ajay@ajayhirani.com
