Murtada H. Bulbul was born in Mymensingh and grew up in his home district of Sherpur. Completing college with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, he joined a travel agency as a young executive. Soon he left the job in search of something with more freedom and wider scope. Experimenting with various options, eventually, he decided to settle with photography. In 2007, he was admitted to Pathshala, the South Asian Institute of Photography and completed a bachelor degree in photojournalism in 2010. He is now working as a freelance photographer and he mostly interested to establish himself as a documentary photographer.
Starting photography as a hobby, over the time he settled in it with a professional approach. His subjects are the people who are the victims of social, economic and political discriminations thus suffer due to social, political and environmental conditions. His intention is to emphasize their conditions for the greater society to empathize with them and to make them and the society aware of their rights. Towards this objective he started several projects earning recognitions in the greater society. His works and achievement of photo story, ‘Swineherd: the salaried gypsy with a domestic mind’ 2nd place of Alexia Foundation Student Awards 2010. Bulbul currently lives in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
