need your feedback on my new work

Dear Friends and colleagues,

I came back Dhaka, Bangladesh at 25Th of December after one year staying in Germany. I start taking photos in Dhaka already. I am trying to complete my project on “Child labour” and “Drug Problems” at this
moment. But I am also taking lot of single images and planning for other projects.

Not all of them are strong/compelling images, but any how I want to share with you.

You can see some of new images here
http://www.gmb-akash.com/2008-main.html

I will appreciate if I get your feedback.

Best Regards
G.M.B.Akash

You know you are a color guru :) I have always enjoyed looking at your work and the vibrancy that adds to the intensity of your chosen topics. You are right about the “compelling” part. Needs a tighter edit but you are definitely on the right track. Keep working on it and we know you will end up with a beautiful set of really strong images. Do share what are using as far as techincal details go, would appreciate it! till then Happy Clicking!

My stupid problem with these exquisitely seen and crafted photos is that I no longer believe gorgeous pictures of suffering can accomplish anything but art sales to the richest exploiters.

So SP, what kind of pictures do we have to make to accomplish something? Holga? Lomo? Don’t want to start another never-ending discussion… I like these pics very much. Excellent colour work.

Accomplish? Depends. Here is a private reply I received to my stupid post: “You’re making the common mistake of assuming this kind of stuff is ever really meant to help the subject. It’s just a path to awards and your own bio on Wikipedia. For most people anyway.” I replied “No, not making that stupid mistake. I simply spoke about my own loss of belief, as in ‘I no longer believe…’ meaning I used to stupidly believe but no longer do.”

I like your picture of the child begging at the car window better than Steve McCurry’s, which seems posed.

This series of work is excellent Akash. Really pleased to have the opportunity to view it here. I understand the arguments about beautiful images of suffering, and I am torn over this issue myself, as I prepare to embark on a humanitarian project. It is not one that I have yet resolved. But your work is your vision, and I respect it’s beauty and it’s humanity.
