Net neutrality
|
It seems to me that the threat of the loss of net neutrality would hurt everyone who is not rich and powerful, and cause serious damage to what is open and democratic in our society.
Here’s one link with information : http://www.savetheinternet.com/blog/
Here’s what i’ve sent to my senators: “I hope you realize how important a free and open internet is to sustain a vital and vibrant society.
The low voter turnout in this country is a symptom of serious malaise, feelings of powerlessness, and distrust of the honesty of our government. A free and open internet heals and helps strengthen individual citizens and our social contract. To allow this great gift to to be compromised by the lobbying efforts of powerful corporations who think only of immediate profit, no matter how detrimental the long term social costs, would be a grave disservice to the American people, and to the world.
I hope our lawmakers will think of the well being of the people, and not cheaply sell off our birthright.”
I would very muchlike to hear opinions from other LS members about this.

Hi Florance. Here’s another petition that kind of has the same purpuse. I’ve put this post on my own blog, so people who see it, can singn on. Might be an idea for other blogowners as well. Best, Wendy
The web is a great tool for sharing ideas and freedom of expression. However, efforts to try and control the Internet are growing. Internet repression is reported in countries like China, Vietnam, Tunisia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria. People are persecuted and imprisoned simply for criticising their government, calling for democracy and greater press freedom or exposing human rights abuses, online. But Internet repression is not just about governments. IT companies have helped build the systems that enable surveillance and censorship to take place. Yahoo! have supplied email users’ private data to the Chinese authorities, helping to facilitate cases of wrongful imprisonment. Microsoft and Google have both complied with government demands to actively censor Chinese users of their services. Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right. It is one of the most precious of all rights. We should fight to protect it. (Courtesy of Amnesty International)
On the following link you can sign the petition and actively take action. http://irrepressible.info/
