New Monitor Help

Hi all,
I’m looking to get rid of my dinosaur of a CRTube monitor but am getting lost in the LCD proliferation.
Are you using LCD now? What are you using? Is there any monitor you would recommend?
I am looking for something at least 20-22 inches and LCD. Please help!

I’m using one now, but it’s junk. Next one I’ll get will probably be an Eizo of some sort. Start there. Also check Viewsonic, Lacie, NEC, maybe Ilyama and Samsung.

The best deal in monitors is the Dell Ultrasharp range. A 20 inch one chould cost you around $400.

Eizo is the best, but at a price. Dell does make a pretty good monitor for much, much less. Make sure you look at the viewing angles.

I have a friend that is doing a PHD in comp sci / display technology and he says the Dell’s are really iffy. Sure they are cheap and you might get a great screen but you are as likely not too. His lab bought a bunch of the same model of Dell LCDs to test and they found that they had different components in them from different manufacturers. Some of these parts worked properly together and others not as well, I don’t remember all the details but he advised me not to buy a Dell LCD.

I suggest you the LACIE 526. In France the price is 2.329 Eur with the eye sensor for calibr.

the apple displays are really color accurate, and pretty reasonable. i’d go out on a limb and say they are the best deal out there for LCD displays in terms of being spot-on and calibratable, in spite of the fact they only give you brightness controls. (that;s the joke… they dont have color controls, but, actually, they’re so accurate they don’t need them. other cheaper and same price displays have them, but they really really suck.)
that said, the Lacie 321 and other “color accurate” models are the next step up the totem pole, and the eizos are def the most expensive, and probably the best, but do you need that quality and can you spend that money?
for instance, eizo has a display that can shoot an AdobeRGB gamut, vs the SRGB that eveyone else shoots. cool, but really pricey.

I’ve read of the 20” Apple Cinema Display being one of the best values in LCD monitors. It’s not cheap (around $600 in the US) but much more affordable than the Eizo, top end NEC’s, La Cie – and supposedly better than other monitors in the same general price range (Dell, Viewsonic, etc.) I recently started using one, and so far it’s great… You may want to check out the digital darkroom/monitors forum on photo.net ( http://photo.net/bboard/q-and-a?topic_id=1701&category=Monitors) for more info about LCD’s…

Thos has been discussed in several threads previously. If you do a search, you will find a whole lotta opinions.

I us the QUATO 23 inch LCD the best there is the new version of the old BARCO CRT but this is gone and the new by the same technical stuff is the QUATO 23 but it cost in the Netherlands 2650 Euro include the VAT but 10 years of guaranty
