New Photo Contest? (PHEspana + OjodePez)

I think it’s a great idea, the work you put out is smart – I know ‘no fees’ would be on the top of the list of requests, along with ‘no rights grabs’, but with regard to particulars, maybe some kind of sponsorship or euros as are given by PHE would be wonderful..as well as a slideshow at the festival and a spread in OjodePez?

Me too, no fees, No right grabs, if possible ftp submitions, not only war or dissaster pix will be good, a great jury. Thanks for ask.

I agree with the others Frank. FTP is really important as it helps save on cost and shipping. I bailed on DAYS Japan because shipping from Spain was outrageously expensive.

Protecting the photographers rights is obviously important and I think instead of outright prize money, grant money for a future project could be really appealing as it not only awards for current work but pushes the winner to continue to strive for better work.

Any chance you can get PHE to drop their exorbitant fees for being considered for their portfolio reviews? ;-)

No fees for sure, no right grabs, ftp shipping just like the new and flamboyant WPPh ftp server, no handling with paper copies, no age limit, no geographical restrictions.

And well, grant money for future projects… how much does a photographer need for that?

Let’s say 3 months in the field, any field, spring-fields included.

Photographers always end up with a low-budget-backpacker-trip in order to last the more time possible taking pictures, let’s say 6.000 usd?

We count with some synergies with the PHE festival, not sure about which ones yet.

And yes, they charge exorbitant fees for being considered in the portfolio reviews, something very common with major festivals. The only ones that enjoy knowing the true promise of these festivals are the petit committee of full-year ping-pong travelers, visual intellectuals that get holidays for free.

I will suggest making a lightstalkers post in order to elaborate a list of the top 10 “portfolio-reviewers” worldwide, the ones you might find in PHE, and at Fotofest, and in Brighton, etc…

1. No fees
2. FTP transmission
3. Nicely designed photo layout
4. Commission/grant to continue working
5. Invite winning photog(s) to jury the following year.
